CHANEL Mademoiselle Privé presented by Lagerfeld

CHANEL Mademoiselle Privé presented by Lagerfeld

This month’s talk in the London fashion world concentrates on one exhibition: the CHANEL Mademoiselle Privé at the Saatchi Gallery takes the visitor on a tour through the history of the worldwide known brand and mainly on the personal life of Coco Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld. The exhibition was recommended by our tutors, so the girls and I decided to have a look at it on a friday afternoon.

I’ve been to the Saatchi Gallery already and was thrilled how they managed to transform the place so it would perfectly fit the current exhibition. When entering the building, you will encounter walls filled with sketches and quotes by Chanel, some of them quite inspiring and uplifting. From up there the exhibition takes you by the hand and guides you through the most important and prestigious aspects of the fashion brand. Starting with the jewelry line “Bijoux de Diamants” created back in 1932 and ending with dresses from the latest Haute Couture, you can easily get lost in the designs that became history and inspiration for so many fashion designers. One thing that always rings a bell when I hear the name “Chanel” is the world of perfumes, particularly “Chanel No. 5”. This milestone of a scent is a key element of the company and still, after 94 years on the market, a bestseller. It is though, for my taste, a bit too heavy. However, at Saatchi you can see how it was invented and where the story of success started (and that the iconic bottle design had a lot to do with it).

It wouldn’t be a Chanel exhibition without garments, right? Karl Lagerfeld made sure to show off just the finest Haute Couture in the last rooms and I have to admit that the designs are still timeless, but see for yourself.

If you haven’t been there yet, hurry up: the exhibition closes on November, 1st, and there is no entry charge (one of my favorite things in London).

Have a lovely week and enjoy the colourful autumn!
