Top BnB’s On My England Road Trip

BnB, Bed and Breakfast. When I hear those words they are like a melody to my ears. Suddenly I think of the perfect getaway, a cuppa tea and scones in bed while reading my favourite novel “xx”. During my England road trip, I had the chance to try a couple of BnB’s from small to big. I have selected my absolute favourites and written a review based on breakfast, accommodation and host service.

Firs Cottage in the Woods

BnB-5

So we’ve been to Wales. As mentioned in my Travel Diary before, we have booked a room with Mary in Llanwrst out of an emergency situation (I have still nightmares about the night in the car and it wasn’t the most comfortable one…). For one night only we stayed in a pretty double bedroom, expecting to have basics only, meaning shower, bed and wardrobe and BnB classics including tea and biscuits. Surprisingly our room had much more extra’s, such as books, a big wardrobe and a highly appreciated special: a make-up table (ahhhmazing!). Wi-Fi is available too!

Since we booked via Airbnb, breakfast wouldn’t have been included in general. At Mary’s place things were a little different and she explained to us that guests wouldn’t leave her house without having had her self-made jams and fresh baked bread. The next morning we faced the truth and a table full of porridge, self-made juice -I fell for the cranberry one- and multiple spreads.

Besides the lovingly prepared brekkie, Mary provided us with all the information we needed for our next stop in Wales. Although it was only one night, it felt like in my childhood days and reminded me a lot of my Nana in Vienna. Talking of ‘house in the woods’ I have to say If you’re looking for an exceptional stay with a personal touch, this place could be a splendid breakout on weekends.

Where to find: Airbnb

Price per night: 80€/night

Breakfast at Firs Cottage
At the Mohair Farm

Mohair Farm

BnB-6

Yay, a farm *sounding like a 3-year-old*. That’s what I thought when I heard that we had booked a farm. Thinking of farm there are three words immediately popping up in my mind: streaking, cuddling, aawing (said in a higher voice when seeing chicks). Obviously, I forgot about the fact that it was just a BnB rather than a big farm. Peter the host, told us that he had two horses and some pigs, but he couldn’t guarantee if we would see any. Although K. and I went for an early pre-breakfast run, we couldn’t spot any on the route. However, we’ve got cheered up with an absolutely tasty breakfast; traditional English please with scrambled eggs, mushroom, bacon and freshly toasted brown bread!

BnB-2

Our room came with two single beds. Since we booked via Booking.com, we knew that we might have to deal with that kind of issue, but that was nothing we couldn’t manage ourselves. Voila – a few mins later we had our DIY double bed ready. One of the biggest highlights for me was the bathroom. In a simple and caring manner, it was decorated with all the goodies one could need including shower gels, shampoos, conditioners and super soft towels.

BnB-3

Where to find: Booking.com

Price per night: £70/night

Specials: bathroom and the spacious rooms

All in all, these two accommodations were my absolute favourites and I can highly recommend them to visit.
